Simpson, who has been the Chief Operating Officer at the Victoria University of Wellington since 2009 and worked as VP Operations and Finance at Queens University, will be taking over responsibility of UBC’s $2 billion operating budget and will manage finances at UBC and UBC-O.
Next year, the university plans to allocate $16 million into individual faculties, $6 million into financial aid, mental health resources and improving the campus life for students and $4.5 million into the university’s investments. The university also plans to invest part of the funds into the Student Information System and a new administration program review program.
At the April 8 meeting, councillors voted to not allow Bokor to skip the evaluation on grounds that executives still needed to be held accountable for their performance and should not be able to opt out of it by refusing the money. Instead, Bokor will be going through a more sensitive review process.
Louise Cowin, VP Students, said that the students they consulted made it clear that they were opposed to all fee increases by the university. She also talked about the letter submitted by the AMS on behalf of students, which said that students wanted a more affordable tuition but not at the cost of a poor quality of education.
On Tuesday, April 7, Agora Café’s Finance Manager came in for her shift after the long weekend. Upon entering the organic cafe in the basement of Macmillan Building, she discovered that the all the doors were unlocked and that the locks on the lockers were missing. A total of $685 was stolen from the restaurant.
At 12:30 p.m. on April 9, the RCMP found the body of a dead man on the property of the Norman McKenzie House, which is the residence of the incumbent UBC president Arvind Gupta. The name or age of the man has not been released.

The morning meeting started with a closed session discussion. Once the public was allowed into the room, the Board announced that all talk of tuition and other fee increases had been postponed until Tuesday, April 14.
RCMP Seargant Drew Grainger said that they were conducting an investigation into a reported assault on Wednesday, January 29. The RCMP has spoken to the witness, but was not able to find any information on the attackers.
